Loving Yourself So You Can Move Forward

Do you love yourself? Do you have a vision of some changes that you’d like to make in your life, but you’re just not sure about going for them? Well, it’s time to ensure that your relationship with yourself is a healthy one so that you can move forward with your life and make good decisions.

Mike Kim is a marketing strategist, and he says that you need to have a good relationship with yourself. It is the longest relationship you will ever have with anyone and the most important one. The idea is that if you don’t love yourself, then you will not be able to manage other relationships in your life, whether those are in your community, personal, or business. You may have a genuine appreciation for other relationships, but they cannot be maximized until your relationship with yourself is strong.

We all go through different seasons of our lives that shape and form us into who we are. But he says, “If I can understand myself better, if I can view myself objectively better, if I can understand why I make certain decisions and that how I grew up influenced the way that I make those decisions and the tendencies that I have, then I at least have enough information. I have enough data; I have enough context to make changes in my life as I see fit.”

So, to help you, Mike has three questions that serve as an inroad to your self-relationship. These questions tap into your emotions to get at what drives you and what is really going on with you. They can often serve as a catalyst to make changes in your life. The first one is, “What pisses you off?” This pertains to the injustice that you see in the world. The second is, “What breaks your heart?” This refers to the compassion that you have for others. And the third question is, “What is the big problem you are trying to solve?” If you are in business leadership, this could refer to the profits you are aiming to make, or personally, it could refer to what you want to do in this world. This can be applied to what you see as your life purpose.

Again, these questions tap into your emotions. At some point, you have to have emotional clarity in order to step into the unknown and move forward with major changes in your life. This is the part where you take action. It requires you to commit to change in your life, have the courage necessary to step forward, have the competence in what you’re doing, and then have the confidence to take that next big step. It is good to have that emotional clarity to be ready for opportunities when they arise. When a door opens, you want to have a clear vision so you can move forward through it...and that all begins with having an incredible relationship with yourself so that you can make good decisions for positive changes in your life.
